It is an honour to accept the invitation to act as an ambassador for the charity Voicing CSA. Having worked as a social worker for almost 30 years, I have supported children, adults and their families who have been affected by child sexual abuse. I am now employed as an academic and I have research roles which aim to understand the effects of child sexual abuse and the best services to support those affected.
Child sexual abuse has always existed, and perhaps it always will. However, if we are to reduce the incidence of abuse and respond more efficiently to those who are abused the current progressive movement of adult survivors is vital. I never fail to be amazed by the ability of survivors to work together to share knowledge, support one another and engage with social structures to bring about sustainable change.
I am privileged to have a voice and to support the voice of survivors.
